Grinding wheel is one of the necessary products in the industrial production industry and is widely used in many industries. According to its use, it can be mainly divided into: ceramic grinding wheel, cutting wheel and grinding wheel;
Ceramic grinding wheel has good heat resistance, high grinding efficiency and polishing effect, and the surface of the processed workpiece is smooth, uniform and highly consistent.
Cutting wheel is usually very thin and is mainly used for cutting application scenarios, such as cutting of metal, ceramic, marble, road, glass and other materials.
Grinding wheel is mainly used for processing and correction of metal workpiece shape, such as surface polishing, casting burr, rust removal, sheet metal flash correction, etc.
There are many factors to consider when choosing a grinding wheel, such as: type of abrasive, abrasive grain size, specification size, hardness of abrasive, type of binder, density, etc.;
Grinding wheels are classified into ordinary abrasives and natural abrasives according to abrasives; ordinary abrasives refer to brown corundum, white corundum, black corundum, zirconium corundum, chrome corundum, single crystal corundum, silicon carbide, etc., and natural abrasives refer to diamond, cubic boron nitride, etc. The following introduces several commonly used abrasives:
Brown corundum has high hardness and toughness, so it can show good grinding performance when grinding metals with high tensile strength such as carbon steel, alloy steel, forgeable cast iron, hard bronze, etc. It is mostly used in the rough grinding link of cutting off a large amount of excess, and the price is cheap;
White corundum has higher hardness than brown corundum, but slightly lower toughness. During the grinding operation, the abrasive grains are fragile; therefore, it is mostly used for fine grinding of hardened steel, high carbon steel, high-speed steel, or grinding of thin-walled parts.
Black silicon carbide has high hardness and sharpness, but low brittleness, and is widely used in grinding low mechanical strength materials such as cast iron, brass, aluminum and refractory materials.
Green silicon carbide has good abrasive sharpness and thermal conductivity, and its hardness and brittleness are slightly higher than black silicon carbide. It is widely used in grinding hard and brittle materials such as cemented carbide, optical glass and ceramics.
The particle size of the grinding tool will also affect the production efficiency and surface effect; it should not be ignored when selecting the grinding wheel; the coarse-grained grinding wheel has high production efficiency, but the workpiece surface is rough; the fine-grained grinding wheel can bring better surface roughness. The selection should give priority to the roughness, and then ensure the high grinding efficiency. Grinding tool size: 36#~46# for general flat grinding, cylindrical grinding and centerless grinding; 60#~100# for fine grinding and tool sharpening
The most commonly used grinding wheel binders include: vitrified binder and resin binder:
Vitrified binder is an inorganic binder with stable heat resistance and corrosion resistance, and low porosity. Vitrified bond grinding wheels are the most widely used and have good performance in the grinding of ordinary carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless steel, cast iron, cemented carbide and other materials. It has high grinding efficiency and low wear, but it is brittle and should avoid severe vibration during use; the speed usually does not exceed 35 m/s.
Resin binder is an organic binder. Resin bond grinding wheels have high strength and self-sharpening, and certain elasticity, but low heat resistance; they are widely used in rough grinding, rough grinding, cutting and free grinding such as grinding steel ingots and deburring castings. It is easy to make and has a short process cycle. The working speed of resin bond grinding wheel can be higher than 50 m/s, and it can also be made into very thin shapes. Its application range is second only to that of ceramic bond grinding wheel.
In addition, the selection of grinding wheel also depends on its specifications and dimensions.
